A MESSAGE FROM WHEELOCK COMMUNITIES

On behalf of the Hidden Creek team, we at Wheelock Communities wish to thank you for your interest as we continue to explore new and better uses for the 164-acre Hidden Creek Country Club property. Though there will sometimes be pauses on this project, we want to let you know that we are firmly committed to advancing community discussion about Hidden Creek’s future.

Based on its size, scale and location, Hidden Creek offers tremendous untapped potential to fulfill any number of well-settled community and County objectives related to recreation, environmental enhancement and housing diversity.

Over the past several years, we have worked with many in the community to explore Hidden Creek’s potential and develop a plan that enhances the ideals of Reston. While there are some in the community who oppose any land-use change, many neighbors and others throughout the Reston community that we have communicated with have expressed interest in pursuing a change.

We believe there are many opportunities for a thoughtful, environmentally friendly development that opens up currently private land to public access with enhanced amenities where all stakeholders can win. We are encouraged by this show of support so far, and will work to earn additional community support as we move forward.

Wheelock is invested in Reston for the long term, through ownership of Hidden Creek and other substantial properties. We are a Reston stakeholder that is committed to working collaboratively to create positive change for this community’s future.

CORE VALUES
Since its founding in 1964, Reston has evolved with great respect paid to the characteristics that defined it from inception—inclusiveness, good design, public amenities, connectivity and respect for natural resources. In its current Comprehensive Plan, Fairfax County adopted planning principles to guide development of Reston as a complete community for the 21st century, including:
  • Excellence in planning, urban design and architecture
  • Environmental sustainability and green technology
  • Development that is phased with infrastructure
  • A mix of urban and suburban life styles
  • Housing for all ages and incomes
  • Strengthened connectivity and mobility
  • High quality public spaces
  • Public participation in planning and zoning
The Hidden Creek plan incorporates all of these principles and more, with particular emphasis on community, recreation, the environment and public open space.
