Hidden Creek will be rolling out the welcome mat to our Reston neighbors over the coming months through a series of special events and opportunities to enjoy the beautiful green space here. FIRST & THIRD TUESDAYS

12:30 to 4:00 pm starting times

As a “thank you” for the heroism and dedication of our First Responders, Hidden Creek Country Club is initiating First Responders Golf Days twice a month, starting in March. All police officers, firefighters and paramedics are invited for a free round of golf (cart excluded). Starting times will be available between 12:30 and 4:00 pm, and food and beverage specials will be offered at the Hidden Creek clubhouse.

To participate, call Katie Teel at (703) 437-4222 to make a reservation no later than 7 days prior to the desired play date. Please indicate that you are a First Responder. Thank you for your service and we look forward to seeing you on the course!

On behalf of the Hidden Creek team, we at Wheelock Communities wish to thank you for your interest as we continue to explore new and better uses for the 164-acre Hidden Creek Country Club property. Though there will sometimes be pauses on this project, we want to let you know that we are firmly committed to advancing community discussion about Hidden Creek’s future.

Based on its size, scale and location, Hidden Creek offers tremendous untapped potential to fulfill any number of well-settled community and County objectives related to recreation, environmental enhancement and housing diversity.

Over the past several years, we have worked with many in the community to explore Hidden Creek’s potential and develop a plan that enhances the ideals of Reston. While there are some in the community who oppose any land-use change, many neighbors and others throughout the Reston community that we have communicated with have expressed interest in pursuing a change.

We believe there are many opportunities for a thoughtful, environmentally friendly development that opens up currently private land to public access with enhanced amenities where all stakeholders can win. We are encouraged by this show of support so far, and will work to earn additional community support as we move forward.

Wheelock is invested in Reston for the long term, through ownership of Hidden Creek and other substantial properties. We are a Reston stakeholder that is committed to working collaboratively to create positive change for this community’s future.

BEHIND THE VISION

To help create the right plan for Hidden Creek, Wheelock Communities assembled a team of experts that are acclaimed for great places, both locally and nationally.

For more than a dozen years, Wheelock Communities has added value to residential land in high-demand locations throughout the United States. VIKA is a civil engineering and site design firm that takes a multidisciplinary approach to ensure that land plans are efficiently designed, expertly engineered, and exceptionally attractive when they come to life. Though the team draws experience and inspiration from around the world, VIKA has been placemaking throughout D.C., Maryland and Virginia for four decades, and knows the geography and development history. Notable projects include the Mosaic District in Fairfax County, Ballston Quarter in Arlington County, and The Boro in Tysons.

Wells + Associates keeps people moving and improves networks with sustainable traffic engineering and multi-modal transportation planning solutions. Based in Tysons, W+A has worked for both public and private clients on more than 7,000 projects in 40 states. The firm is ranked as one of Virginia’s Best Places to Work by Virginia Business.

Swaback is an internationally acclaimed architecture and planning firm, with an interdisciplinary team that provides services from community visioning through interior design. Managing Partner John Sather puts his vivid imagination to work in dreaming up one-of-a-kind places and amenities that bring families and neighbors together in meaningful new ways. He led Hidden Creek’s initial focus groups and set the planning path in motion.

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. is the leading natural and cultural resources consultant in the Mid-Atlantic region. The firm’s engineers, scientists, regulatory specialists, permit compliance specialists, arborists, archeologists, architectural historians, ecosystem & restoration specialists, surveyors, and geographic information specialists assist both the public and private sectors with the permitting process and create innovative solutions to water quality issues.

Meetings with community stakeholders began in 2018. Online meetings and presentations continue today with residents whose properties surround Hidden Creek.

Reston is a unique place that is blessed with a combination of open/green space, trails and walkways, parks, active recreation, and passive places of reflection. As the community continues to diversify, the recreational needs are changing. We need more public recreation spaces for more to enjoy that should be publicly owned and maintained. When those opportunities to acquire such spaces appear, those proposals should be given serious consideration for the good of all.

The opportunity to restore the streams and wetlands on this property is a dream come true. Connecting this restoration to the 12 miles of streams we have already restored in this watershed makes it even more significant as the ecological benefits grow with scale. When I was the Reston Planner in the 1970s, Bob Simon and I had more than one conversation about his vision for Reston. My take away from them was that he was focused on making Reston a community where "work" was the key to success (bringing employment to Reston) but "play" was an essential central ingredient in his mind. I think he would be pleased at the proposal to transform a passive and exclusive golf course open-space area into a recreation facility for use by all Reston residents year ‘round.

At Hidden Creek, transportation opportunities will focus on preserving established neighborhood streets through implementing a Green Transportation Infrastructure consistent with the founding principles of Reston. Improving the pedestrian and bicycle experience while providing connections to existing trails and historic Lake Anne will facilitate a sustainable community and reduced congestion. Roadway improvements will seek to discourage non - local traffic within established neighborhoods while providing safe pedestrian and bicycle mobility.
